SPS vs Hot Pressing: Key Differences For Furnace Selection

Compare spark plasma sintering and vacuum hot pressing by heating behavior, pressure method, sample size, cycle time, and typical material development scenarios.

SPS vs Hot Pressing: Key Differences For Furnace Selection

Process difference

SPS is often selected for rapid densification and material research where fast heating and pressure-assisted sintering are important. Hot pressing is often selected for larger tooling, stable pressure sintering, and production-oriented dense material parts.

Selection direction

If cycle speed and powder research flexibility are most important, SPS may be the better starting point. If larger parts, graphite tooling, and industrial pressure sintering are the focus, vacuum hot pressing may be more suitable.
